Many of the engagement tactics we share in these blog posts are focused on the long term. However, there are actually many things you can do to increase engagement today that won’t harm your long-term community-building goals.

Here are some quick and easy tactics you can use to increase engagement right now!

Get More Engagement By Posting Video Content

One of the quickest ways to see an increase in engagement is to post video content.

Here are a few highlights from digital sales and marketing company iMPACT that demonstrate why video is still such a powerful tool!

  • “75 Million people in the U.S. watch online videos every day.
  • Merely mentioning the word ‘video’ in the email subject line, the click-through rate increased by 13%.
  • Nearly 50% of all video is watched on a mobile device.
  • Videos up to 2 minutes long get the most engagement.”

Short, entertaining and informative clips perform best on social media platforms. Shorter videos are easier to digest and share. They are also a powerful repeat engagement tool since many users will no doubt watch them more than once.

“Video content, when executed correctly, draws followers in and can create a clearer picture of your brand message by combining the best media marketing tactics (i.e. text, sound, image etc.) — you create unparalleled content that is much more likely to be consumed!” — Like A Voss Blog

Get More Engagement By Tagging Relevant Users & Accounts

Tagging relevant users and feature accounts can get you an instant boost in engagement. This short term tactic is often overlooked, but it’s one of the most powerful ways to connect with the broader online community.

Many accounts actually count on those in the community to share relevant content with them. It just takes a little research to find out which accounts are seeking submissions.

“Be sure to tag your posts as well! Use the @ symbol to tag in the description of your post, but also tag the photo if you feature something related to that person or business.” — Ocreative Design

Here are some rules we use to guide us when tagging other accounts:

  • Make sure the accounts you tag are asking for submissions
  • Do NOT spam — respect community guidelines!
  • Only tag relevant content
  • Tag accounts during a time of day when the manager/owner is likely to be online to increase your likelihood of being discovered!

If you don’t know which accounts to tag, take a look at what your favourite creators are doing. Chances are, they are already tagging relevant accounts in your niche, so you can take cues from them.

Get More Engagement Using Branded Hashtags

From influencers to major brands, everyone has a branded hashtag these days.

Using branded hashtags is one of the best ways to get discovered by your community. They increase the chances of both brands and other creators discovering and engaging with your content.

Focus on hashtags that have seen less use in order to get on the radar of their creators. While no one person or company can own a hashtag, the “creators” will likely be searching their tag in order to find accounts to engage with and feature.

Get More Engagement By Engaging

A survey conducted by Mention.com found that the most engaging content “didn’t necessarily come from the most highly followed accounts on the network. Popularity doesn’t always equal connectivity. What explains this result? These users were creating content that resonated with their audience more frequently… [and] earn their engagement through posting daily and regularly talking with their followers.” — Social Media Examiner

Engaging with your audience on an in-depth basis will always get you results. Set aside a few hours each week and dedicate them to engagement sessions. Reply to all your comments and answer DMs thoughtfully and engage with content that isn’t your own.

Engagement breeds engagement. If users see you regularly liking and commenting on content, you will be pegged as someone worth engaging with. This tactic will have you seeing increased engagement in both the long and short term!

While we will always recommend long-term community building tactics, use these tips to see a boost in your engagement today!
